Welcome

On a fateful Tuesday morning in September 2020, a group of mothers of children with autism attended a parent training. As we prepared to leave the campus, one of the more outgoing mamas asked if anyone would be interested in grabbing coffee some time. The response was overwhelmingly “YES!” and our first coffee date was planned.

Seven mothers gathered month after month and became empathizers, confidantes, grieving partners, and ultimately the closest of friends. For the first time, we had connected with other mamas who just “got it.” No apologies needed. No judgement. Just genuine mothers who all shared one thing in common: we have children with a label.

Soon our group of friends realized that the there is a gaping hole in North Houston: other mothers and caretakers need opportunities for connection. They need to find others who, without saying a word, understand their lives in a way no one else can. The seed was planted.

Affiliated with the national organization Labeled & Loved, this local chapter’s mission is to embrace and strengthen families with disabilities by providing connective experiences and educational resources igniting personal growth and systemic change within the community.
